About CS16Zone
Who runs CS16Zone, why, and how the monitor checks servers, ranks them and flags fake ones.
Updated October 22, 2026
CS16Zone is a fan project for people who still play Counter-Strike 1.6. It has a live server monitor, a ranking based on real players, a forum, communities and a clean game client. Players pay nothing. Server owners can add and claim their servers for free. Later we will sell boosts to cover hosting costs. A boost makes a server easier to see, but it never gives it a better rank.
CS16Zone is not affiliated with Valve Corporation.
How we rank servers
Checks. We query every online server every 3 minutes with the standard A2S query (name, map, players, bots and the player list). A server is marked offline after it misses two checks in a row, so one lost packet doesn’t count. Offline servers are checked every 15 minutes at first, then every hour after an hour, then every 6 hours after about four days. After 30 days offline a server drops out of the lists. Its page then says it is no longer tracked, and it comes back as soon as the server answers again.
Averages. Each check counts for the time since the one before (15 minutes at most), so the average is weighted by time. Example: 12 hours with 20 players plus 12 hours offline gives an average of 10. If our own monitor was down, that time doesn’t count as offline for anyone.
Rank. Rank is the position by average human players over the last 24 hours, among servers that are online and not flagged. Bots never count as players. A server has the same rank everywhere on the site (lists, rankings, server pages, banners), and it updates every few minutes. The arrows show the change since the start of the day (UTC). Votes and payments don’t affect rank.
How we flag fake servers
A flagged server stays on the site and we keep tracking it. It just gets no rank, can’t be boosted and is hidden from search engines. The checks look at the last 24 hours:
- Bots: 3 or more bots on average, and at least as many bots as humans.
- Fake players: more than 32 slots, or more players than slots. A player count (5 or more) that doesn’t change for a whole day. Or a player list that looks generated, like numbered names or everyone joining at the same second with zero score.
- Redirect: out of 40 or more different players, 85% show up only once. That means players are being sent on to another server.
- Copy: the same server name on 3 or more different IPs. The server we have known the longest keeps the name, and the copies get flagged.
If you own a server and think the flag is wrong, claim the server and report it. We will look at it again.
